11 Sinister Instances In Which Social Media Left Corpses In Its Wake
According to Wikipedia and most contemporary dictionaries social media consists of computer-mediated tools that allow people to create, share, or exchange information, ideas, and images/videos in virtual communities and networks. However, and as we all know, wherever human activity is involved there’s often jealousy, violence, craziness, and many more “nice” attributes of humankind. In this list we take a closer look at 11 cases where social media became the reason or served as the tool for some crazy or cruel people to commit murder. Written by Theodoros II
FACEBOOK FRIENDS CONVINCE IDIOT TO MURDER IN EXCHANGE FOR A FREE MEAL
In 2011 an animal in human form from the UK named Joshua Davies battered his teenage girlfriend to death in order to win a bet he made with some Facebook “friends” over a free breakfast. Ironically Rebecca, fifteen, and her mother, Sonia, had both been very happy when Davies, an academically gifted boy from a religious family, arranged to meet her again. As for the fucked-up kid?
Without any sign of regret he texted one of his Facebook friends a couple of days before the trial started, and in a joking manner said, “Don't say anything but you may just owe me a breakfast,” and his friend replied, “Best text I have ever had mate. Seriously, if it is true I am happy to pay for a breakfast. I want all the details. You sadistic bastard.”
It’s moments like these where the death penalty looks like the ideal form of punishment.
MAN KILLS HIS EX-WIFE BECAUSE SHE MADE HIM LOOK LIKE A BAD FATHER ON FACEBOOK
A twenty-nine-year-old chef from England savagely murdered his ex-wife after she taunted him on Facebook about reporting him to Child Services. Adam Mann used a hammer to batter his thirty-year-old ex-wife, Lisa Beverley, before slashing her neck.
He left his former partner in a pool of blood, where the couple’s five-year-old son found her in what was called a scene of “unimaginable horror.” The boy phoned his grandparents after discovering his mother with wounds to her head, neck, and chest. I think we can all agree some people should be sterilized.
TEEN KILLS HIS DAD OVER INTERNET BAN
It might sound unbelievable and disgusting but the unfortunate fact is that a fifteen-year-old boy from Mesa, Arizona, shot his father in the back of the head because he wouldn’t let him use the Internet. He told the police that he did what he did because MySpace was his outlet and that he had to do something about it so he could log back on.
According to a Mesa police report, when Hughstan Schlicker heard officers talking about the investigation, he responded, “Dad came home, I shot him in the head, what investigation?” Almost laughing, the teen continued, “Along with murder, can you put me down for truancy, I ditched today,” the report said. “Can we clean up this before my mom gets home, I don’t want her to come home and see my dad dead.”
STUPID BOY KILLS HIS GIRLFRIEND OVER MYSPACE COMMENT
Matthew Dubois had seven felony convictions by age sixteen, but Judge LeRoy McCullough still released him because he felt like a young “brotha” deserved a second shot in life. So what do you think “poor” Dubois does next? He kills his fifteen-year-old girlfriend over a comment she made on MySpace that he didn’t approve of. Not to sound cruel or anything, but thank God a white cop didn’t murder him in the meanwhile because who knows how many innocent white people would be harassed, lose their properties, and even get murdered in the riots that would follow.
JEALOUS DUDE BEATS HIS FRIEND TO DEATH FOR POKING HIS GIRLFRIEND ON FACEBOOK
Scott Humphrey repeatedly punched Richard Rovetto after the pair had an argument in a taxi on the way home from a stag party in England. The fight broke out when Humphrey, twenty-seven, accused Rovetto of contacting his girlfriend, saying that he had “poked” her on Facebook. Nottingham Crown Court heard that Humphrey asked Rovetto, “If you’re such a good friend why did you poke my missus?” We guess he killed him just to show him how buddies are supposed to show their affection to each other?
WIFE MURDERED FOR CHANGING HER FACEBOOK STATUS TO SINGLE
In 2008 forty-one-year-old Edward Richardson stabbed his wife, Sarah, to death when he realized that his wife had changed her Facebook status from married to single. Richardson tried to kill himself after the attack but survived and would later be sentenced to life with a minimum of seventeen years in prison.
Fiona Cortese, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Richardson became enraged when Sarah changed her marital status on Facebook to single and decided to go and see her as she was not responding to his messages.” What happened next can’t be described as a simple visit though.
“ROUGH SEX” AD ON CRAIGLIST GOES TO THE EXTREME
Teenager John Katehis responded to a sex-partner ad posted by ABC News Radio host George Weber and met the anchor at his apartment in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, where he bound and stabbed Weber over fifty times. Katehis claimed he murdered Weber in self-defense and blacked out during the incident, but remembered being given lines of cocaine and alcohol by the victim.
Some reports claim Weber paid Katehis to beat him up and smother him during sadomasochistic sex. The worst part of the story, however, is that after pleading not guilty to second-degree murder, Katehis was freed in part to a mistrial after a juror voted not guilty. Only in America!
TWITTER WAS THE CASE . . .
Remember a ‘90s hit by Snoop Dogg called “Murder Was the Case”? Well, in our case we need to rephrase it a bit since Twitter was the case. It all started as a simple Twitter beef with the only “weapons” being 140-character spurts of anger between two young black men who grew up together. However, the tough talk exploded outside of cyberspace and onto the streets of Harlem, where the crime took place. James Blake had quarreled with his best friend. Kwame Dancy, over a girl and decided, like the violent ghetto idiot he is, to take action and be a “gangsta.” Now he’s rotting in jail.
WACKO USES FACEBOOK AS A TRAP TO MURDER HIS EX
It all started with an innocent Facebook message from her former boyfriend and unfortunately ended in the gruesome murder of Sarah Elston, a talented young Brisbane artist.
The twenty-two-year-old artist was looking forward to catching up with her former flame who contacted her on the popular social networking site. But in a crime that shocked her family and friends, the free-spirited artist was found dead in her apartment with multiple injuries. Friends revealed that Sarah was excited and looked forward to seeing her ex- boyfriend again but obviously this bastard had bad intentions.
TEEN’S SOCIAL NETWORKING HOBBIES: “KILLING PEOPLE”
Missouri teenager Alyssa Bustamante shocked the world back in 2009 when she admitted to stabbing, strangling, and slitting the throat of a young female neighbor. As she wrote in her journal on the night of the murder, it was an “ahmazing” and “pretty enjoyable” experience and then headed to church as though nothing happened. The creepiest part of her story is that in her hobbies and likes on Facebook she included “killing people,” but no one was wise enough to take seriously this totally fucked-up kid.
CRAIGLIST CLIENT GETS CAUGHT AFTER KILLING BIKE SELLER
This story made me feel more insecure than anything since I am one of those people who uses the Internet not just for entertainment but for making a living as well. Why? Well, according to the information the police’s investigators gave us, after Thai Lam posted a sales ad for his Kawasaki Ninja bike he was mysteriously found dead in his garage from a fatal gunshot wound allegedly inflicted by Brandon Kent. The so-called buyer drove away on the stolen motorcycle only to be arrested by metro police at his apartment complex. What a scumbag, right?
