how to be a modern DJ.

1) by a flat bill hat, sunglasses and wristbands
2) buy a dual record player and a MAC
3) download a bunch of loops and bass drops from Sony Acid Pro
4) loop said beats together
5) press play
6) occasionally hop, turn a knob up or down and scream "yeah"
7) turn knob again
8) glow sticks. you have to fucking have glow sticks
9) dramatic pause:.........cue flashing lights....drop beats....yeah, your badass
10) repeat same beats over...and over....and over...and over...add a "wah wah wah" and now your a dubstep pro...fuck yeah! TALENT!!!

.....I'll stick with Slayer.

i think the definition of artistry is different for everyone. Being able to lift a crowd of 60.000 or more by using technology is no easy task.I've bene to concerts and dance festivals and to be honest, at a lot of the concerts people were just standing - or were thye just having deeper thoughts about the lyrics? - while at the dance festivals people were constantly having a god time and dancing. Personally I can appreciate both. I've seen iron Maiden, Slayer, Verdi, Muse, Coldplay, Paul mcCartney, ACDC, Public Enemy, QOTSA, Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Moby and so on. Sometimes a concert sucks and sometimes it is great.

Sadly we have entered an era where raw talent and artistry have been replaced by technology and an overwhelming desire for profit and "fame". Look at the biggest (bullshit) artists of today - they are not self made - they are made for us by companies who lust for $$
